As the Founder and CEO of The Garrett Companies, Eric Garrett leads the company’s strategic vision and oversees its operations. Under his leadership, The Garrett Companies has become one of the nation’s top multifamily real estate development and construction organizations, as recognized by the National Multifamily Housing Council.

Since 1999, Eric has developed and delivered over 70 projects in 22 states, totaling more than 20,000 apartment units. The Garrett Companies is an industry leader in forecasting trends and delivering properties that find quick success in the market. The company also manages apartment communities and develops mixed-use, retail, and office properties.

Having grown up in apartment communities, Eric developed a deep passion for creating high-quality housing accessible to individuals across the income levels. After graduating from Indiana State University, he began his career in multifamily brokerage and quickly moved to the development side of the business. Leading him to establish The Garrett Companies not long thereafter.

Rob Martinson serves as the President of The Garrett Companies, leading the organization’s strategic growth, investment vision, and operational excellence. He is responsible for upholding the highest standards, reducing risk, and driving profitability across all business ventures. With over 25 years of real estate and construction experience, Rob has held diverse roles in investment oversight, construction, project management, financial analysis, and development. Throughout his career, he has been directly involved in over $5 Billion of commercial real estate investments across multiple asset types, with a strong focus on multifamily, student housing, and mixed-use communities. Under his leadership, The Garrett Companies continues to expand its national presence while maintaining a culture of innovation and excellence.

In 2023, we lost our beloved COO Matt Griffin. Matt was more than the Chief Operating Officer; he was the Chief of Ideas, Strategies, Fun, Innovation, Growth, and Structure. Serving alongside Eric Garrett since the inception of The Garrett Companies, his vision, ideas, and passions are woven into the very fabric of our identity as an organization, and his legacy will continue to live with us as our company flourishes for years to come. Matt touched the lives of countless people throughout his 25+ year career in real estate development, where he played a key role in managing over $400 million worth of projects, ranging from suburban greenfield developments to urban infill mixed-use campuses. His sense of humor and giant smile are sorely missed.

Jonathan Byrd is the Chief Operating Officer at The Garrett Companies, where he has built his career through years of progressive leadership and hands-on experience. Over his tenure with the company, Jonathan has held a variety of senior roles that provided him with a comprehensive understanding of its operations, culture, and unique business model. Before joining Garrett, he led major construction projects with other respected firms, developing a broad perspective on the industry that continues to shape his leadership today. His ability to support teams, oversee complex projects, and contribute to operational improvements has helped Garrett continue to grow and succeed. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management from Eastern Michigan University—Go Eagles!—an education that laid the groundwork for his technical expertise and strategic approach to leadership.

Outside of work, Jonathan is passionate about exploring the world and embracing new experiences. He is an avid traveler who enjoys discovering different cultures and cuisines, a dedicated wine enthusiast and foodie, a college football fan, and someone who rarely turns down the opportunity for a round of golf. These personal passions mirror the curiosity, balance, and appreciation for detail that he brings to his professional role.

As General Counsel, Kyle McClammer oversees all legal matters of The Garrett Companies. His practice includes all aspects of real estate development, including property acquisition, debt and equity financing, construction, leasing, project management and dispositions. He also advises the company on general business, corporate and compliance matters and oversees outside counsel. Prior to joining The Garrett Companies, Kyle practiced at the law firm of Wooden & McLaughlin in Indianapolis where he represented lenders and real estate developers with a focus on the multifamily industry. After law school, Kyle also served as a judicial clerk to Judge Margret G. Robb of the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Alyssa Skarbek, Chief of Staff / VP of People & Culture, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the company’s culture remains strong, proactive, and aligned with the CEO’s vision. She also oversees training, professional development, recruiting, and internal marketing efforts related to culture. A graduate of Purdue University, Alyssa joined the team in 2020 as a Human Resources Manager before being promoted to her current role in 2025. In addition to her responsibilities related to People & Culture, Alyssa is a member of the TGC Strategic Advisory team and sits on the board of the Garrett Family Foundation, where she helps the GFF team make a positive and substantial difference to surrounding businesses and individuals in need. Alyssa’s fingerprints are evident in The Garrett Companies’ award-winning culture, which continues to redefine workplace norms across the country.

As Vice President of Operations and Administration of The Garrett Companies, Rachel serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external constituencies on all matters pertaining to the Office of the CEO. She helps to optimize the CEO’s time and ensures that business operations run smoothly. Rachel previously worked as a Special Events Coordinator with a not-for-profit organization serving children with cerebral palsy. There she provided administrative support to the Development and Program Director as well as assisted in the implementation of special events. Her experiences include nearly 20 years of clerical experience. Rachel is an Indiana University alumnus with a B.S. in Recreation with an emphasis in Recreational Sports Management.

Steve Flick, President of Construction, brings over 25 years of experience in multifamily construction and project management. His extensive industry knowledge and leadership expertise enable him to effectively manage teams at all levels, driving excellence in every project. At Garrett Construction, Steve is committed to strategic planning, team empowerment, and delivering high-quality results, ensuring success across all facets of construction operations.

Meet Matt Anderson, our Vice President of Construction Operations. He is responsible for overseeing the project management team in coordinating and managing all preconstruction and construction related activities over the course of the project. Some of his responsibilities include budgeting, planning, scheduling, financial monitoring and communicating with field personnel, subcontractors, material suppliers, and municipalities. Matt is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He and his wife have two children and Matt enjoys golfing and hanging out with family in his free time.

Rob Bundy, Vice President of Preconstruction, directs and manages all preconstruction efforts at The Garrett Companies. In markets across the country, Rob leads the Preconstruction team in reviewing, documenting, and ultimately delivering bids and buyouts for future TGC projects. Naturally, he and his team serve as a critical link between the TGC Development and Construction teams, allowing them to stay involved deep into the construction process of a given community. Rob’s extensive background in Preconstruction includes nearly 20 years of industry experience and a B.S. and MBA from Indiana State University.

As Executive Vice President of Development, Ashley Bedell uses a background in negotiation, entitlement, and project management to support developmental initiatives nationwide. She leads The Garrett Companies’ Development division through various aspects of planning, design, & logistics on all active TGC projects. Ashley is also a strong community and social services expert with a Master of Professional Studies focused in Real Estate Development.

As Senior Director of Acquisitions with The Garrett Companies, Aaron’s responsibilities include managing site selection, site due diligence, market analysis, financial underwriting and reporting, and entitlement review for proposed new acquisitions. Aaron is an alumni of Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Construction Management and Georgetown University with a Masters in Real Estate Development.

Jordan focuses on the financial underwriting and pre-development aspects of projects. He assists in identifying new sites that meet all Garrett development criteria. With all potential projects, Jordan works with the Investments Team to determine the best yield vs risk scenarios. Once a project makes it to our active pipeline, Jordan works to minimize risk and time by performing an essential set of due diligence and pre-development tasks. While Jordan works with the Investments Team, he also communicates with all departments to make sure expectations and goals are met at each stage of the development cycle.

Alex Smith, Senior Associate Counsel at The Garrett Companies, is part of the TGC Legal Team and member of the Strategic Advisory Team. Prior to joining TGC in 2021, Alex was Associate General Counsel for a maritime transportation company and an associate at a law firm in their business services practice group. He earned his Bachelor of Science in accounting and business economics from Marquette University in 2011 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2015. Alex enjoys spending time with his wife (Jennifer) and their daughter (Adele), golfing, and staying up to date on all the news coming out of the watch industry. In relation to his watch hobby, Alex says that if he could visit anywhere, he’d love to go to Switzerland someday.

Anna Larson joined The Garrett Companies in 2019 as the Communications Manager and now serves as Director of Training and Development. A graduate of Franklin College, Anna majored in International Business, Management, and Marketing. She leads internal training efforts and continues to champion professional growth through the internship and mentorship programs she helped establish. Anna previously led the company’s marketing team and now brings that strategic lens to her development work. Outside the office, you’ll find Anna running, traveling, serving in her local church community, and spending time with family.

As Accounting Operations Manager, Jenny is key in executing all matters relating to the administrative and accounting functions of Garrett Construction. Her responsibility primarily holds her accountable for monitoring the progress of projects, investigate variances, collect expenses, and ensure that project billings are collected and analyzed for accurateness. Other duties include assisting the Project Manager and Project Engineer prepare subcontracts, study job cost reports, and prepare monthly billings to the lender. She worked for 3 years at Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union as a loan officer until she had her children. After 8 years of staying at home with her children, she went to work as an assistant at Center Grove Elementary School. Following this opportunity, Jenny worked as an Office Manager for a Custom Home Builder Matt Beecher Builders.

Chris manages the acquisitions platform for all multifamily transactions. He identifies, analyzes, and manages all acquisition opportunities across the nation. Chris works with the Investments Team to determine the appropriate business strategies, areas of risk, and upside opportunities. Although he started his career in multifamily brokerage, Chris has worked in acquisitions since 2016. Chris enjoys the real estate business so much that he operates several real estate investments throughout Indianapolis area and practices as a Realtor in his free time. While not working in real estate, Chris spends time with his wife and energetic boxer puppy or can be found on the lake, golf course, or ski slopes.

Since joining TGC in 2019, Jackson Beckman has advanced through various roles and departments, ultimately becoming the Director of Owner’s Representation. He began his journey as a Construction Project Engineer and later transitioned to the development team as a Construction Administration Project Engineer, where he contributed to drawing plan reviews and construction monitoring. Jackson then served as a Construction Operations Manager, specializing in Procore and construction cost tracking. Before joining TGC, Jackson was part of the project management team at one of Indiana’s largest general contractors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and Engineering from Purdue University Indianapolis in 2018. Outside of work, Jackson enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, golfing, and exploring the great outdoors.

Emily Griffin is the President of the Garrett Family Foundation and has had a deep connection to The Garrett Companies since its inception. She took on the role in January 2024 to lead the foundation to its official launch and has since guided impactful initiatives, including a highly successful inaugural golf outing that raised nearly $200,000, all dedicated to supporting families and charitable causes in need. With a focus on providing immediate assistance to those facing unexpected hardships, Emily and the GFF team are guided by the biblical principle, “To whom much is given, much will be expected.” Together, they work to foster resilience, inspire hope, and build pathways to success for individuals navigating life’s challenges.

Erik Thomas, the Senior Director of Debt Capital at The Garrett Companies, oversees all banking and lending relationships for the company and is responsible for the strategic planning of capital deployment including securing construction financing for new developments. Erik works cross-functionally with the legal department, accounting, acquisitions, and investment teams to support project underwriting, capital structuring, loan closing, and cash flow management throughout the project lifecycle.

Prior to joining The Garrett Companies, Erik spent 16+ years in the banking industry, where he originated a substantial volume of construction loans across all asset classes, specializing in multifamily and industrial real estate. His deep experience in construction financing and his collaborative approach to problem-solving have made him a valuable strategic partner across all phases of development.

Erik earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University. Outside of work, Erik values time with his wife and two sons, cheering on youth sports, and nurturing a lasting connection to the game of golf. Passionate about giving back, Erik co-founded the Houston Banker’s Classic in 2017 – a golf tournament which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for several local charities with direct impact to the community.

Mark Evans serves as Vice President of Construction Services at The Garrett Companies, where he leads the construction affiliates—Blue Star, Blue Horseshoe, and Teldar—in pursuit of the company’s broader vision and strategic growth. He oversees organizational strategy, operations, and financial performance, driving efficiency and alignment across the construction division.

With over 23 years in the industry spanning design, general contracting, and the skilled trades, Mark has held leadership roles in project management, preconstruction, design, and business development. His portfolio ranges from residential and multifamily developments to high-profile commercial projects, including the $300 million Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. He’s a past recipient of the NWA 40 Under 40 award and multiple ABC Excellence in Construction Awards, recognized for delivering results through operational excellence and accountability.
